why we started moms in scrubs

When your child is struggling with their health, the world can suddenly feel very small and very overwhelming at the same time.

You find yourself sitting in doctor’s offices, hearing words you’ve never heard before. You’re trying to process information, make decisions, and ask the right questions—all while carrying the deep fear and love that comes with being a parent who just wants their child to be okay.

It can be exhausting. And at times, it can feel incredibly lonely.

We know this because we’ve lived it.

We’re Amanda and Jessica—two nurses and two moms raising children with complex health needs. Our careers in healthcare have given us knowledge about the medical system, but our experiences as parents have given us something even more important: understanding.

We know what it feels like to sit in that chair as a parent. To worry about symptoms. To question whether something might be getting missed. To advocate for your child when your gut tells you something isn’t right. To walk into school meetings hoping someone will truly understand what your child needs.

Those moments can feel heavy.

And sometimes, parents carry them quietly.

We started the Mom’s in Scrubs Podcast because we believe parents deserve a place where they don’t have to carry that weight alone.

Our hope is that this space feels like sitting down with two people who understand both sides of the journey—the medical side and the parenting side. We want to talk openly about the things many parents experience but don’t always have a place to say out loud.

In this podcast, we share what we’ve learned as nurses, but just as importantly, what we’ve learned as mothers navigating real-life challenges with our own children. We talk about advocating for your child in medical settings, working with schools, trusting your instincts as a parent, and finding ways to care for yourself along the way.

But more than anything, we want parents to feel seen.

Because when you’re raising a child with medical needs, it’s easy to feel like no one truly understands the daily decisions, the worries that keep you up at night, or the strength it takes to keep showing up for your child.

If you’re walking this path, we want you to know something important:

You are not alone.

There are other parents who understand. There are people who want to support you. And there is a community growing here that believes every parent deserves encouragement, guidance, and hope as they care for their child.

This is why we created Mom’s in Scrubs.

Not because we have all the answers—but because we believe in sharing what we’ve learned, supporting one another, and reminding parents that their voice and their advocacy truly matter.
