Realizing I Needed to Set Goals: Motivation Behind My Blog

Many of you may wonder why I decided to start a blog. It has been something I have wanted to do for a while but struggled to actually pursue this goal. Below is my very first blog post ever from my first blog that I started at the end of January. Most of it still applies today. Working on my blog (and exercising) has helped me have so much more motivation though.

Hitting rock bottom

Let me be honest with you all. I often lack the motivation to accomplish anything productive. My house is nearly always messy. Sometimes my kids stay in their pajamas all day. Sometimes I don’t even eat a real meal all day. I am nearly always tired.

I spend much of my day wishing my life was better but not doing anything about it. Then I feel guilty for being so lazy. Sometimes I have the motivation to accomplish a big task(I recently organized my pantry). I finally feel proud of myself. I think “gee, I should keep this up”. Instead, I let that little voice that says “I’m so tired!” get to me. So I go veg out on Netflix or facebook for longer than intended…Then it’s way past when I should be in bed and I think, “I will try to do better tomorrow”. Only the next day I seem to have forgotten this little goal…This has been my life for way too long.

Time to set goals and stick to them

One day recently, I sat down(well, I was already sitting) and tried to think of something I could do to help me be happier. I realized I needed to set some real goals. The problem I usually have when I start setting goals is that I come up with about a hundred goals(ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration). But really, I think of way too many areas that I need improve upon.  And then I try to do them all at once. I last about a day and then my chaotic schedule gets the best of me and I give up.  I knew this time had to be different. I needed a way to be held more accountable for my goals. I also needed to focus on one goal at a time instead of all of them.

One of my goals was to learn how to sew. My birthday is coming up so I decided I would love a sewing machine. I thought it would be fun to have a way to share my projects as I learn. This is where the idea of starting a blog came from. I have actually thought of starting one in the past but could never settle on a topic. From my sewing idea, I thought of a lot of other blog ideas, and out of these thoughts I settled on a name and theme for my blog.

My main purpose

The main goal of my blog originally was to work on myself. I have realized in the last month or so that it is more than this though. I am hoping to help others who may feel similar to this. Weighed down by the cares of life. Overwhelmed with all of the tasks that must be accomplished. We could all use help in this journey of life. I hope to offer my help to all of my readers. Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for more!
